Bowen & Taylor Power To Opening Night Wins At Lake View
LAKE VIEW, SC (April 13, 2018) – Whiteville, NC’s Dean Bowen and Fayetteville, NC’s Jordan Taylor powered to opening night wins Friday at the newly revamped Lake View Motor Speedway. Bowen’s victory came in the Late Model division, while Taylor bested a strong field of Open Wheel Modifieds to capture the checkered flag.
“The Wild Child” Willie Milliken of Roanoke Rapids, NC thrilled the near capacity crowd in qualifying to take the Late Model pole with a fast lap of 17.399 seconds around the 3/8-mile speedway. But, at the drop of the green flag, Bowen was able to gain the advantage from the outside pole position to lead into turn one. The first caution of the night would wave on lap one when Chris Miller looped his machine entering turn three. Bowen would continue to lead over Milliken when the next caution would wave for a spin by Roger Lucas in turn two. Milliken would fall out of the race due to mechanical problems prior to the next restart which would see Buck Causey, Johnathon Ward, and Tony Ayers collide in turn one. Bowen would lead the rest of the way to take the win over Shaun Harrell, Zach Blackwell, Daulton Wilson, and Zachary Cox. Rounding out the top 10 were Johnny Pridgen, Dustin Mitchell, Colby Jenerette, Timmy Montgomery, and Ayers.
In the Open Wheel Modified division, Jordan Taylor started on the pole and led flag-to-flag to take the win. Taylor’s dad, David, challenged his son early on before Christian Thomas moved by to take second. At the checkers, J. Taylor would take the win over Thomas, D. Taylor, Timmy Blackwell, and Andy Boahn.
Johnny Moore dominated to take the Super Street division win over Benji Thompson, Greg Cain, Brad King, and Stevie Reaves.
Austin Rodonis survived a wild Pure Stock feature to take the win after bumping race long leader, Cameron Norris from the top spot late in the race. Mike Manes survived a scary multi-car accident on the final lap that saw his car end up on his roof. Following Rodonis to the checkered flag were Michael Butler, Storm Daniels, Sam Hardee, and Brad Harrelson.
Kevin Weatherford would take the win in the 4-Cylinder division, while Richard Seals would get the victory in UCars.
In Bell & Bell Vintage Car action, Sherman Garris and Cameron Noris, IV would take the victories.
