Wilson, Milliken Take Wins In Lake View Specials

LAKE VIEW, SC (May 3) – Ethan Wilson and Willie Milliken claimed wins Saturday night in special events at Lake View Motor Speedway. Wilson’s win was worth $5,000 in the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock Jamboree, while Milliken claimed $2,100 for his win in the Late Model division.
In Street Stock qualifying, Josh Hellams set the fast time of the 29 qualifiers. At the drop of the green flag, Hellams and Cameron Holloway had a heated battle for the lead with Hellams prevailing from the outside groove. The first caution of the race waved on lap five for a solo spin in turn four for Landon Totherow. Hellams dominated until a mechanical problem sent him to the pits with 13 laps to go. This gave the lead to Wilson over Hank Taylor and Andrew Durham. Taylor and Durham were taken out of contention with six laps to go when they spun in turn two. Wilson dominated over the final laps to take the win over Holloway, Jeff Parsons, Terry Caples, and Brian Carswell. Rounding out the top 10 were Robbie Turner, Caleb McLaughlin, Blake Bentley, Austin Rodonis, and Grady Christian.
After qualifying on the Late Model pole, Willie Milliken jumped into the lead over Christian Thomas and dominated to end a long winless drought at Lake View. The first caution of the race waved on lap seven when Hank Taylor pulled to a stop on the speedway. The only other caution occurred with nine laps to go when Raymond Brown stopped with a flat right rear tire. Following Milliken and Thomas at the finish were Michael Batten, Brian Strickland, and Steve Blackburn. Rounding out the top 10 were Bradley McCaskill, Shaun Harrell, Dan Breuer, Brown, and Tony Ayers.
Benji Thompson led the final eight laps to take the win in the Carolina Outlaw Super Street division. The caution waved on a lap six restart as Russell Boyd and Danny Hudson battled down the backstretch. Contact sent Hudson sideways and eventually spinning in turn three after more contact with Jerry Johnson, Sr. On the restart, Thompson was able to take the lead from Brandon Marshall entering turn one. The final caution flag of the race waved with two laps to go for a hard crash in turn four between Boyd, Hudson, and Peyton Abbott. Behind Thompson at the finish line were Johnny Moore, Marshall, Ben Taylor, and Joe Taylor.
Kyle Whitney withstood a race-long challenge from Mike Bowman to score his long awaited first Sportsman Modified win. Following Whitney and Bowman to the checkered flag were Jeff Tiley, Zack Cox, and JJ Williams.
Chucky Nicholson led the final 12 laps for his first Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 win of the season. Chip Fenoff grabbed the lead at the start, but spun in turn two on lap three. The final caution of the race waved with three laps to go for a spin by Derek Kemper in turn four. Following Nicholson to the checkered flag were Justin Kidd, Michael Butler, Fenoff, and Jason Floyd.
Jake Johnson took the lead with six laps to go from Johnny Brooks and led the rest of the way for his first Crown Vic win of the year. Brooks took the lead on the start after pole sitter Eugene Vaughn ended up in the turn one embankment. The race was slowed by a caution with four laps to go after contact from Shea Stafford sent AJ Huffman spinning in turn two. Behind Johnson at the finish line were Richard Seals, Walter Johnson, Darrin Russell, and Cameron Barnette.
Tristian Stephenson might have led every lap of the Legends car feature but it was not for a lack of trying by Tyler Sealey. Stephenson was stalked by Sealey every lap of the race but was able to withstand each challenge. Behind Stephenson and Sealey at the finish were Austin Neighbors, Caleb Day, and Joseph Sanoske.
The next event at Lake View Motor Speedway will be Flat Track Motorcycles Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11. Then, May 17, it will be the JD Pridgen Memorial Late Model special, plus Street Stock, Sportsman Modifieds, Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8, Crown Vics, INEX Legends, Bell & Bell Vintage Cars, and Juicebox Racers.
