History

Founded in 1979 by Jay Asbill, Lake View Motor Speedway was born from a vision in a quiet cornfield in Dillon County, between Lake View and Nichols, South Carolina. What started as an idea surrounded by farmland quickly grew into a cornerstone of the community and a place where memories were made under the lights.

By the 1980s, Lake View had established itself as one of the Carolinas’ premier dirt tracks. With racing filling Friday and Saturday nights and even Sunday afternoons the speedway became known for its electric atmosphere, passionate fans, and unforgettable competition.

Legends of the sport have battled on this red clay, helping shape the future of dirt racing in the region. In the early 1990s, David Taylor took ownership and elevated the track’s national presence by bringing in top touring series like Hav-A-Tampa and STARS. The legacy continued under Charles and Sandra Miller, who promoted Lake View for over two decades and helped solidify its place in Carolina racing history.

Today, Lake View Motor Speedway is entering a new era under the ownership of Scott and Sophie Tripp. With the support of Wayne Brewer and General Manager Tim Clemons, the mission remains clear: honor the past while building something even greater for the future.

Still known as the smoothest 4/10-mile semi-banked dirt track in the South, Lake View Motor Speedway proudly carries its identity as The Greatest Show on Dirt in the Carolinas.
