Michael Rouse Wins On Wild Edwards Memorial Night At Lake View
LAKE VIEW, SC (September 7) – Wilson, NC’s Michael Rouse led every lap Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway enroute to winning $7500 in the 6th Annual Edwards Family Memorial for the Carolina Clash Super Late Models. It was announced earlier in the afternoon that next year’s race will take place on Labor Day weekend, September 5, 2026, and will pay $12,000 to win.
In qualifying, rouse edged out Ben Watkins to start on the pole position. After a caution for the slowing car of Brian Strickland on lap three, Dustin Mitchell was able to move by Watkins for second on the restart. The biggest incident of the race occurred on lap five when Willie Milliken spun after contact with Bradley McCaskill in turn one, collecting Layton Sullivan, Landon Zakalowski, Mike Parker and Brad Basey. Back under way, Rouse continued to lead but was being pressured by Mitchell. As the two entered lapped traffic, Rouse got into the slower machine of Parker exiting turn two, causing Parker to nearly spin on lap 15. Following a spin by Parker in turn two with 11 laps to go, Brandon Dockery would spin across the track on the backstretch, ending up on the turn three berm. On the final restart, Watkins was able to slip back by Mitchell into second. Rouse would take the checkered flag over Watkins, Mitchell, Ethan Wilson, who slipped by Christian Thomas on the last lap as they split the lapped car of Ed Mason. Rounding out the top 10 were Banjo Duke, Donovan Jackson, Dalton Peavy, Joe Radford, and Doug Sanders.
Jeff Tiley started first after the top six qualifier redraw and never looked back to continue his dominance of the Sportsman Modified division. The caution flag waved for the first time on lap five for a spin in turn four by Kurtis Whitney. Two laps later, Zach Cox spun in turn one after contact from Colton Beasley. Following Tiley to the checkered flag were Kyle Whitney, George Gareis, Jr., Mike Bowman, and JJ Williams.
Aiden Ragland scored his first Heritage Signs Street Stock win at Lake View after a weird series of events. It started when the most recent winner in the division, Cameron Holloway, go too high exiting turn four and slammed the frontstretch wall on lap five. This handed the lead to points leader, Terry Caples, who appeared to be cruising to another win, until a spin by Austin Herring in turn two with five laps to go. Caples jumped the restart by approximately five car lengths on the restart, leading to him being penalized one position. Ragland would take the win over Cameron Norris, IV, Robbie Turner, Austin Rodonis, who started 18th after arriving late, and Ron Pope.
Former Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 champion Chucky Nicholson inherited the win after the apparent winner was disqualified following post-race tech. Both Tom Lovett and Rocky Gasque led early, only to both fall out with suspension issues. Following Nichols on at the finish were Chip Fenoff, Michael Butler, Scott Lewis, and Aiden Autry.
The Thunder Bombers made their Lake View debut a memorable one as Greeleyville, SC veteran Robbie Disher picked up the win. Keith Wells led at the drop of the green flag but would relinquish the top spot on lap two after a solo spin in turn two. One of the scariest incidents seen at the speedway occurred on lap five as Wells was making his way back through the field. Wells sideswiped William Lee exiting turn two, sending him and son, Cameron Lee, into the backstretch guardrail. Approximately 50 feet of guardrail was torn down as William Lee’s car eventually rolled over onto its roof. Thankfully both father and son were okay. Bubba Kolb had led since lap five but began struggling with a suspension issue. The suspension would collapse entering turn three, sending Kolb over the embankment and into a wild series of flips. Again, the driver would prove to be okay. Disher led the rest of the way for the win over Boo Hickman, Bubba Miller, Wells, and Anthony Morris.
Jake Johnson grabbed the lead on the first lap, but an incident between he and Johnny Brooks on the final lap ultimately led to Jason Turner scoring the Crown Vic win worth $750. Johnson had led since the first lap but was closely pursued by Brooks. Contact from Brooks on the final lap sent Johnson around in turn two, handing the lead to Turner, who held on for the win over Michael Barnette, Richard Seals, Bill Wingate, and Chris Adkins.
Tristan Stephenson took the INEX Legends win over Austin Neighbors and Josh Sanoske and, in so doing, secured his first track championship at Lake View.
Racing returns to Lake View Motor Speedway next Saturday night, September 13 for the Fall Brawl featuring the Late Models racing for $2500 to win and specials for the Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8, Thunder Bombers, and Crown Vics.
