Bryan Mullis Dominates For Lake View Blue Ridge Outlaw Win
LAKE VIEW, SC (September 20) – Rock Hill, SC driver Bryan Mullis started on the pole position and dominated to take a record-breaking win in the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model feature Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway. The event was the first series event to run caution-free and the shortest elapsed time in Blue Ridge Outlaws history.
Mullis jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag over second place starter Dale Timms. The only scare Mullis encountered during the 40-lap race was when Brandon Dockrey dropped off the pace in front of him with 11 laps to go and the two made slight contact. Mullis and Timms crossed the finish line in first and second, followed by Dillon Brown, Matt Long, and Travis Steele. Rounding out the top 10 were Braden Jones, Kennie Compton, Justin Hobgood, Scott Shirey and Baron McDowell.
The Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 were the co-headliners in the Jackson Winkler Memorial, and it was Tom Lovett coming out on top for the big win. At the start, points leader Chucky Nicholson took command as he was seeking his third straight win. The first caution flag of the race waved on lap two when Cameron Lee spun in turn two. On the restart, Lovett began applying pressure to Nicholson and was able to move into the lead when Nicholson bobbled in turn four. Jason Floyd had another strong going until lap nine when he spun in turn two. The biggest wreck of the night occurred with eight laps to go when Boo Hickman and Austin Hooks got into the front stretch wall after a bobble in front of them by Aiden Autry. Following Lovett and Nicholson to the checkered flag were Chip Fenoff, Michael Butler and Rocky Gasque.
The Southern Wedge Late Models made their return, and it was Kennie Compton taking a dominant win. The first caution of the race waved on lap 13 when Bill McDaniels and Eric Thompson spun in turn two. On the restart, Chuck Southard got too high entering turn three as he challenged David Stone for third and ended up on the embankment. Following Compton to the finish line were Bailey Loftin, Stone, McDaniels and Thompson.
After a long winless drought, Mike Bowman finally was able to get back to victory lane taking the Sportsman Modified win. JJ Williams pressured Bowman until four laps to go when he spun in turn four while challenging for the lead. Behind Bowman at the finish were Jeff Tiley, Kyle Whitney, Zack Cox and Williams.
Andrew Durham continued his undefeated streak and led flag-to-flag for another Heritage Signs Street Stock win. The caution flag waved on lap four when Ronnie Perritt and Landon Totherow spun in turn four. Three laps later, the caution came out again when Perritt and Johnny Clark spun in turn two. Behind Durham at the finish were Joey Wilkes, Jessie Spradley, Totherow and Austin Herring.
The Crown Vics put on another exciting race, and it was AJ Huffman taking his second straight win. Johnny Brooks led at the start, but a mechanical problem sidelined him with three laps to go, handing the lead to Huffman. Following closely behind Huffman at the checkered flag were Garrett Killman, Robbie Tumbleston and Howard Leonard, Jr. and Dalton Christenbury, who both bounced back after early spins.
Michael Fulwood was the Bell & Bell Vintage Car winner over Wes Horrell and Brian Guererri.
The next event at Lake View Motor Speedway will be Saturday night, October 11 and will feature double points for the Sportsman Modifieds, plus Heritage Signs Street Stocks, Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8s, Crown Vics, Bell & Bell Vintage Cars and Juicebox Racers.
