Bashore, Smith Take Big Wins At Lake View

  • For Immediate Release

LAKE VIEW, SC (November 8) – Bryce Bashore and Andrew Smith were the big winners of the weekend’s racing action at Lake View Motor Speedway that saw the pits filled with over 120 race cars. Bashore took home $2,000 for his win Saturday night in the 40-lap Belmont’s Garage Sportsman Modified feature, while Smith scored his third Beach Bash win at Lake View for the SCDRA Sport Compacts and the $5,000 top prize.
Friday night’s Sportsman Modified winner Jax Yohn grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and it looked like it could be a repeat of the night before. The caution flag waved a few times early in the race, first for a spin by Kyle Belmont in turn one and then again on lap seven when JJ Williams spun in turn two and collected Belmont and Jason Floyd. Yohn continued to lead until a lap 16 restart when Bashore took the top spot after restarting on the outside of row one. The caution waved again with 15 laps to go when Pete Serra, Jr. spun in turn one after contact from Jeremy Mayfield. Bashore fought off several challenges from Yohn in the remaining laps but held on for the win over Yohn, Grant Hilfiger, Mayfield and George Gareis, Jr.
The SCDRA Sport Compacts returned for their fifth visit to Lake View, and it was Andrew Smith taking the lead at the start from the outside pole position. The first caution flag waved on lap seven when Rick Berenger pulled to a stop in turn three. Three laps later, the caution again came out for a spin by Blayne Ellis on the frontstretch. The biggest incident of the weekend occurred on lap 11 for a violent wreck in turn three that saw Cameron Hinson’s car flip several times and Shannon Barnhill go over the embankment. The final caution flag of the night waved with 16 laps to go when second place runner, Eddie McGrew, spun on the backstretch after a mechanical failure. Smith ended up leading every lap followed closely at the finish line by SCDRA points leader, Reid Christensen, John Windham, Brandon Dalton and Kayden Presnell.
A big field of Crown Vics raced for $1000 to win with outside polesitter TJ Slack taking his first checkered flag of the season at Lake View. The first caution flag waved on lap two for a spin by Emmett Brayfield. Night one winner, Shea Stafford, mounted a serious challenge to Slack, but a near spin on the backstretch nearly haltered his efforts. In the end, Slack took the win over Jason Turner, Stafford, Richard Seals and Bill Wingate. Stafford and Seals crashed hard right past the finish line with Stafford going hard into the outside wall and Seals hard into the inside guardrail.
Cameron Norris, IV was the beneficiary of a miscue by early race leader, Jonathan Hinson, and would go on to score the $1200 Heritage Signs Street Stock win and his second straight track championship. Hinson took the lead from Mike Manes on lap three and began to pull away from the field. But three laps later, Hinson would go for a solo spin in turn four handing the lead to Norris. The caution flag waved again with two laps to go for a spin by Matthew Hodge, but Norris would prevail in the end to take the win over Manes, Case Daniels, Hinson and Aiden Ragland.
Chucky Nicholson’s late-season dominance continued as he took the Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 win and his third track championship. The first caution of the race occurred on the opening lap when contact between Michael Butler and Scott Lewis sent Lewis spinning in turn one. Nicholson dominated from there leading the rest of the way for the win over Derek Kemper, Lewis, Butler and Brian Welch.
Michael Fulwood and Jeremy Cumbee put on another excellent race with Fulwood taking the Bell & Bell Vintage Modified win in a photo finish.
Racing returns to Lake View Motor Speedway for the season finale Saturday night, November 22 and the Showdown at Sundown featuring a $3500 battle between the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models and Steel Block Late Models. Also in action will be the Sportsman Modifieds, Heritage Signs Street Stocks, Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8, Crown Vics, Legends and Jackson Winkeler’s Juicebox Racers.
